Sturdy, solid, and holds clothes like a champ. The drawers open and close. Very heavy. I saw a lot of reviews saying that it took a long time, and could be challenging to put together. Well, there were times where I questioned my existence and probably my faith, if I had one. It takes some time and patience. You’ll also need another person to help at times, if for nothing else than to offer a shoulder for crying when the going gets tough. However, it’s a solid dresser at a great price. No complaints here.
As others have mentioned, it takes a fair bit of time and patience to assemble this. However, it can be done by a single person (I did it) and the instructions are very clear and well written. Just take your time and plan on this taking several hours from start to finish (including the occasional break). It’s a nice little project on the weekend. The finished unit was quite a bit more substantial than I expected with an advertised load limit of 135 lbs (30 lbs each of the bottom 3 drawers, 20 lbs in the top drawer, and 25 lbs on the top surface). I’ve had good success with other Sauder products and this one was no exception. Don’t mistake the 5-star rating though. For this category of furniture (pressboard self-assembled with faux veneer) it is excellent, but it is not to be confused with real furniture. At this price point, it’s really a great value. I got it for a guest bedroom in my beach house. It fits right in.
Addendum on Assembly: The key to assembling this (or any similar piece of furniture) is to not be in a hurry. Read each step carefully and completely. Look closely at the pictures. Take your time. Like the old carpenter adage… Measure twice, cut once. If you go slow and take a break when you are starting to get frustrated and come back to it later, it will all come together just fine and you will like the result. If you rush it or don’t carefully read all the assembly instructions, you will be in for a long day.
Having a basic aptitude with tools and mechanics is pretty necessary for this project. It’s not that difficult really, but cumbersome and tedious. I can imagine doing this without a drill or electric screwdriver, as there are a lot of screws. This package is very heavy, I brought it upstairs in pieces. The weight, though, adds to the quality of this furniture. There is nothing cheap feeling about it, it is very solid and sturdy. While that makes maneuvering the parts harder, it makes for furniture I feel will last, despite the fact that I put it together.
The word flimsy will not be included in my review of this product. This is a quality piece, for the price. I own 7 pieces from this line now (Sauder Orchard Hills Carolina Oak) and I am very pleased with the quality. Another reviewer remarked how difficult it was to assemble. I will resist the urge to mock. Assembly was easy, albeit time-consuming. Plan for 2-3 hours and a six-pack. The instructions are clear, precise and very easy to follow. All assembly instructions should be so good. Take your time and you will have no problems. This furniture is engineered wood, and it looks awesome. If you require solid wood, look elsewhere, but prepare to pay accordingly ($$$). All of the pieces I own from this line match in color perfectly, as does the included hardware. The drawers operate smoothly and silently. I have only the highest praise for this piece and unless money is no object, you cannot do better. Good job Sauder.
I didn’t expect too much when I purchased this. It was bought for use in a spare bedroom that will only see use once or twice a year. I think it will last a good while until I refurnish the spare bedrooms in my home. It’s not a high dollar solid wood piece of furniture but it is a solid set of drawers and for the money paid I think it was worth it. Would I pay more, probably not. Assembly is required and will take a little while but isn’t complicated. Directions were easy to follow and complete. You only need a hammer and a philips screwdriver to assemble. You won’t need a drill with screwdriver bit as there isn’t that much ‘turning’ required. The wood is particle board, I’d say medium density. Not like a rock that you can’t get anything into but not soft and crumbly either. Screws held well in the wood. Package arrived undamaged and none of the pieces were scratched, no corners messed up either. After assembly the drawers operated well but if you have any sticking you might check the sliders on the sides as they adjust a little with the screw used to attach it to the drawer. Mine worked out fine. The bottoms are finished, not real thick but there is a center brace under the bottom to give it support. Will easily support clothing as it was intended to do. The wood look finish is fine, seems solid and well done. For a ‘pre-manufactured’ piece of furniture I have no complaints. Assembly was as I anticipated, the look and functionality was as I expected so for the price paid I’m not disappointed.
I was THRILLED when I got this. My boyfriend put it together and according to him he said it was pretty simple. The only thing was that it was heavy but that’s good, means its sturdy. The dresser has a nice, classic look to it. The drawers are VERY deep and fits a lot of my clothes. (Most of my wardrobe). Really really great buy, i was in desperate need of a dresser for my first apt and was not looking to spend hundreds of dollars as my purposes was to just have a decent enough dresser for my needs right now in my life. But, I would be very comfortable with buying this for my actual home in the future.
Sauder furniture is great quality. We had a new baby and needed a dresser but didn’t want to pay for real wood. We didn’t want a cheap Target or Walmart dresser that would fall apart so we bought this. The quality is great and I can see us having it for many years.
